HOWTO: Create video clips on demand using an Axis M10 series IP security camera
A feature which is not activated as standard in the new Axis M10 series is video clip creation. This guide will show you how to set up your M10 camera to record video clips manually from the live image page and store them to the hard disk drive.
This guide will work for the following:
Axis M1011
Axis M1011-W
Axis M1031-W
This feature uses Axis Media Control which is Axis’ name for their ActiveX plug-in for Internet Explorer. This means that this feature will only run using Internet Explorer.
HOWTO:
It’s very simple to set up and use.
Step 1 – Adding the record button to the live image page
Log into the camera as an administrator and access the setup pages by clicking the ‘Setup’ button at the top right hand side of the screen.
From the menu on the left choose the “Live View Config” option. You will be presented with a screen similar to this:

Check the option which says ‘Enable recording button’ and click the ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2 – Start a recording
Go back to the live view image screen by clicking the ‘Live View’ button at the top right hand side of the screen. You should now notice there is an additional button along the bottom of the live view window. The button is the record button.

To start a recording press the record button you will notice that it will become red once active:

To end the recording press the record button again. It will go back to the original color and you will notice not a lot else happens.
Step 3 – Viewing your recorded videos
When you record a video using the instructions shown in Step 2 the video is automatically saved to a pre-determined location which is configured in the Axis Media Control plug-in.
To find out where your recordings are being stored you need to enter your Axis Media Control properties. To do that open up the Control Panel on your PC. You should see the icon for Axis Media Control as shown below (use classic view ):

Double click the icon and it will open up the Axis Media Control properties.
Click the ‘Recording’ tab and should see the recording settings which will display the path to your recordings.

Simply browse to the default path to view your video file or enter a path which is more convenient for your use.
Step 4 – Viewing video files
The files are saved in a .asf format which is Microsoft’s proprietary digital audio/video container format. It will run with no problems in Windows Media Player, can be edited using Windows Movie Maker and uploaded to video sharing sites such as YouTube with no problems.
